I have a peculiar interest in skyscraper construction. Or maybe we all do and I just got lucky and landed a job as a minor cog in the great machine of Hines Interests. It was only meant to be a temp job, but I fell in love with the bigness, the noisiness, the life and death drama playing out around me, so, when offered the job full-time, I signed on. My 65-story tower had already topped out, but just up the street, another Hines building was rising to its majesty of 75 floors and I wouldn’t miss the topping out party for anything. Here I am at the top, captured by a Houston Post camera. Two of my novels are set in high-rise buildings, WE ALL LOVED KAREN and SKYSCRAPER CAPER, one of the John & Mary Bolt mysteries.
